Works on long-awaited road safety measures on the Western Distributor road are now underway.
The works are being carried out to make the area safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
Raised zebra crossings are being put in place with tactile paving and lighting.
Improvements will be made to the cycle lanes, and more speed information signs will also be erected.
Residents and parents associations of the five schools in the area have campaigned for the safety measures for many years.
City Councillor Niall McNelis says it’s disappointing that the works will not be completed before the school year begins – and is urging the Council to ensure they are completed as quickly as possible.
