There has been an increase in demand for engineering and business-related courses at Galway’s third level institutions.
New CAO figures released today reveal that points have risen for a number of disciplines at NUI Galway including Commerce, Biomedical Science, Biomedical engineering and Occupational Therapy.
These courses all require 500 points or more for entry.
The university says international commerce programmes continue to be a popular choice for prospective students.
The popular Bachelor of Arts degree remains the same as last year at 300, while the university’s civil enginnering programme comes in at 430, down from 450 in 2015.
While at GMIT, there’s been an increased demand for engineering, business, design and agriculture courses.
There’s also been an 80% increase in offers for new programmes at GMIT’s Centre for Creative Arts and Media campus in the city.
The college’s accounting degree course remains the same as last year at 300 points, while the Applied Freshwater and Marine Biology course has dropped by 20 points to 300.
GMIT says it has made almost 20% more offers for honours degree programmes this year compared to 2015.
