Contractors sought for renovation work at new refuge

COPE Galway is to hire contractors to carry out architectural and renovation design works at its new Forster Street refuge.
Number 47 Forster Street, the former Magdalen Convent, was donated to COPE Galway by the Sisters of Mercy.
COPE Galway’s current premises at Waterside House only has capacity to accommodate six women and 15 children.
The premises at Forster Street is being redeveloped to accommodate a state of the art domestic violence refuge to service the needs of Galway and the wider region.
It was granted permission by Galway City Council in May this year subject to conditions.
It will involve nine housing units, office, meeting rooms and communal space and a range of facilities for children ranging in age from 0 to 18 years.
The deadline for the submission of tenders to COPE Galway is September 1st.
