There are fears that the student accommodation crisis is deepening as Galway rents soar above boom levels.
The latest report from property website Daft.ie shows rents in Galway city are now 10 percent higher than in 2008.
The average rent in the city is now €932 per month – an increase of almost 15 percent on last year.
While in the county, the average rent is €631 – up 7 percent on the figure for 2015.
Rents in Dublin are now 5 per cent higher than the previous peak seen in early 2008.
Cork city saw the biggest increase – up 18 percent in 12 months.
Trinity College Economist Ronan Lyons, who compiled the report, says the number of advertised properties is also at a record low for this time of year.
