The National Transport Authority has admitted that a lack of docking stations is to blame for the poor uptake of the Galway City Public Bike Scheme.
It’s singling out the lack of a station at NUI Galway as a particular factor in Galway’s poor performance when compared to other cities nationwide.
It follows a report this week which revealed that the Galway Coke Zero Bikes are the least used in the country by a significant margin.
There were just 7,000 journeys made in Galway so far this year – compared to over 2.1 million journeys in Dublin, 140,000 in Cork, and 16 thousand in Limerick.
However, Michael Ahearne of the NTA says they plan to turn the situation around with significant expansions next year.
