Plans for an outdoor adventure centre and ‘glamping’ site in Moycullen have been lodged with county planners.

Faye Bohan, owner of Delphi Outdoors Ltd, has sought permission for the development on the eleven-acre site at Ballyquirke, Moycullen.

It includes a two-storey adventure centre measuring almost 2,500 square metres. The facilities will include a twelve-metre high activity tower with two zip lines; high and low-level aerial woodland tracking courses and other outdoor activities including archery and laser tag.

There will also be ten camper sites and four glamping yurts (‘glamorous camping’).

An access road will be created from the N59, and will include car and bus parking.

“The proposed development represents a significant investment in tourism and leisure infrastructure in Moycullen and the county and will greatly benefit the local community and economy.

“This is a low-impact visitor/leisure attraction at an accessible location and will not result in any significant environmental impacts,” the application reads.

A Natura Impact Assessment included with the application concluded that: “The proposed development, by itself or in combination with other plans and projects, in light of best scientific knowledge in the field, will not, in the view of the site’s conservation objectives, adversely affect the integrity of any European [conservation] site and no reasonable scientific doubt remains as to the absence of such effects.”

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (formerly the National Roads Authority) has told the County Council that the development “would be at variance with national policy in relation to control of frontage development on rational roads” and a Road Safety Audit should be sought, as well as a Traffic and Transport Assessment to assess the impact on the N59.

The greenfield site, which includes woodland, is owned by developer John O’Toole from Bushypark.
