A protest has taken place in Ballinasloe this lunchtime calling for immediate action to address a crisis in Traveller accommodation across the county.
The event was organised by the Ballinasloe Traveller Action Group to raise awareness of the poor conditions in which many Travellers are currently living.
It says an increasing number of families are at risk of becoming homeless, while deplorable conditions, overcrowding and inappropriate accommodation is rife.
Campaigners says the situation has been made worse by years of failed targets within the Traveller Accommodation Plans of Galway’s local authorities.
Protestors gathered at St. Michael’s Square this lunchtime and made their way to the County Council offices in the town carrying a range of banners and placards.
