One man has died and six others were injured in a serious crash on the R334 Headford to Glencorrib road this afternoon.
The extent of their injuries is not known at this time – all have been taken to hospital.
One of those injured had to be airlifted to University Hospital Galway.
Gardaí, ambulances and fire brigades were called to the 3-car collision just before 2p.m
A section of the road out of the town towards Cross is closed, and gardaí are advising motorists to divert through Ballyfruit.
Traffic is now backed up in the area and gardaí expect the scene of this very serious crash to remain closed for several hours while the scene is examined by Garda forensic technicians.
