President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins will be in the city tomorrow (Tuesday) to launch the Irish Historic Towns Atlas – Galway.
The Atlas by Jacinta Prunty and Paul Walsh is published by the Royal Irish Academy.
President Higgins will launch the atlas at the city museum tomorrow at 10.30am.
The authors of the atlas will then give a public lecture at St. Nicholas’ Church Lombard Street at 6.30pm tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the President is visiting NUI Galway today for TG4’s 20th birthday celebrations.
President Higgins played a significant role in the establishment of the Irish language station as he was Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht at the time.
Today’s event will see a transformation of the iconic Quadrangle to a major broadcast pavilion for a live TV show TG4XX Beo which will be aired at 9.30 tonight.
NUI Galway played a major part in the development of TG4 and creative industries across the region through the work of the university’s centres in the Gaeltacht.
Graduates and staff of NUI Galway have played significant roles on- and off-screen in the development and identity of Teilifís na Gaeilge (TnaG) since 1996 and TG4 since 1999.
