Renewed bid to build Tuam services area

An appeal has been lodged against a planning refusal for a new services area off the new M17/M18.
The County Council refused planning permission to Chris Brogan for the development at Killeelaun on the Galway Road in Tuam last September.
Applicant Chris Brogan hopes to build a 6-pump forecourt with canopy and a Heavy Goods Vehicle and coach forecourt on the site of his existing tractor sales business.
The service area would also include a convenience store with an off-licence, three food areas with seating for 135 people and a drive-thru restaurant.
County planners had refused permission on the basis that it would endanger public safety.
However, in an appeal to An Bord Pleanála, it’s argued that the proposal has considered all the concerns expressed in relation to road safety and all have been adequately addressed.
The appeal also states that the developer would be willing to postpone the construction of the proposed development until the M17/M18 Tuam bypass is complete.
An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision in March.
