Pressure continues at UHG Emergency Department

The Emergency Department at University Hospital Galway remains extremely busy today.
Full Capacity Protocol remains in place as over 50 patients await admission.
Non-urgent elective procedures have been deferred in a bid to deal with increased demand.
The public is advised only to attend the ED unit in the case of real emergencies and to contact their GP in the first instance.
It comes as nurses nationwide are to be balloted for industrial action – with their union saying their pay needs to be restored quicker, and more staff hired.
The INMO says their members have suffered chronic, persistent overcrowding with no extra staff.
