Budding scientists who want to show their wares to the biggest audience in the west have been invited to enter their visionary projects for the spectacular final day of the 19th Galway Science & Technology Festival.
The Festival itself runs from tomorrow (Monday) and culminates in the final day Exhibition on Sunday, November 27, which is expected to attract over 20,000 visitors from 10am to 6pm at NUI Galway.
This year’s Festival will explore and celebrate the theme Science Rising in this the International Year of Global Understanding, exploring how the local affects the global.
Primary and Secondary schools are invited to exhibit and demonstrate their innovative science and engineering projects at the Exhibition Day in the Bailey Allen Hall and Orbsen Building at NUI Galway.
Primary schools who will exhibit STEM projects include Milltown N.S.; Annaghdown N.S.; Fohenagh N.S., Cregmore N.S.; St. John the Apostle, Knocknacarra N.S. and St. Theresa’s N.S. Cashel, Connemara.
Secondary schools exhibiting projects include Coláiste Bhaile Chláir, Claregalway; Glenamaddy Community College; St. Paul’s College Oughterard; Loretto College, Balbriggan, Dublin; St. Killian’s Vocational School, New Inn, Ballinasloe; and Calasanctius College in Oranmore.
The themes chosen by these pre-teen and teen scientists are incredibly diverse ranging from app-making, robotics, animation, chemical lab experiments to biodiversity studies and the Outdoor Classroom.
There will also be a strong youth-driven Digital Makers zone that will include Coderdojos from across Galway City and County, 091 Labs and the NUI Galway Computer Society.
This Festival’s final day Exhibition will showcase over 80 interactive exhibit stands by leading global Technology and Medtech companies based in Galway, with main sponsor Medtronic always attracting large crowds to their exciting stand. It will also feature STEM based workshops and demonstrations by colleges and research institutes in Galway.
A new addition this year is the Gaming Zone featuring world renowned Romero Games and ten other indigenous gaming companies who will demonstrate their latest games developed in Galway.
