It’s hoped water supply will be restored to the east of the city by 10pm..
The outage, which began at 11.30am, is due to a burst watermain at Bóthar na Cóiste off the Headford Road.
As a result, households and businesses on the east side of the city are experiencing disruption to the water supply, especially those served by the Ballybane and Briarhill reservoirs.
The areas affected include Briarhill, Parkmore, Ballybane, Renmore, Wellpark and Coolagh
Council water services crew are on site as repairs continue.
Meanwhile, in the county there will be disruption to water supply in the Timadooaun area in Clonberne due to emergency repair works on a bridge in the area.
The county council hopes the water will be restored this evening.
