The Medical Council is to manage a file regarding concerns over a spinal consultant who formerly worked at UHG and Merlin Park Hospitals.
Concerns arose over procedures carried out by the consultant during his term at the hospitals between January 2013 and November 2014, following an internal clinical audit.
The matter was raised at Regional Health Forum level by city councillor Padraig Conneely who asked Saolta officials if they had managed to make contact with the individual.
Hospital management advised that attempts were made to contact the consultant but these failed and the Medical Council is now handling the file.
The meeting heard that 198 patients and their families have been contacted and will be met by management, four of these concern issues of a serious nature.
Councillor Conneely says it’s understood the consultant in question is now working in the Middle East.
