Action urged on threat to local post office network

Households and businesses across the city and county are being urged to take action in safeguarding the future of the post office network.
Roscommon-Galway TD Eugene Murphy brought the matter to Leinster House this week.
The Fianna Fail deputy was accompanied a number of postmasters and postmistresses from Galway and Roscommon who took part in a presentation calling on the Government to protect such rural services.
He argues the threat of closure is now hanging over almost 600 post offices nationwide.
As part of the campaign, Deputy Murphy is urging Galway householders to “go offline” this Christmas.
He wants people to post their Christmas cards this year and forget emails or other digital messages.
