Breaching of orders in relation to domestic incidents has increased by almost a third in the first 10 months of this year.
The statistics are contained in the latest Garda report for the Galway Garda division which has been presented to members of the City Joint Policing Committee.
There has been a 31 per cent increase in the number of breaches of Barring, Safety or Protection Orders in the city between January and October.
There is a 7 per cent increase in incidents where Gardaí may have been called but no offence was then reported.
Reports of rape and sexual assault are also up by 30 per cent and 21 per cent respectively in the first 10 months of this year, compared to the same period in 2015.
Chief Superintendent of Galway Garda division, Tom Curley told the JPC that many of the rape incidents are historical, dating back up to 30 years.
He urged people to send an anonymous letter to Gardaí if they have concerns about domestic incidents and assured members that it would be followed up.
