No new information was gleaned from the search of a lake in Carna last week as part of an investigation into the disappearance of a local woman more than 30 years ago.
A Garda sub-aqua team spent two days searching the lake at Rusheennamanagh (Roisín na Mainiach) as part of a renewed investigation into the disappearance of 33-year-old Barbara Walsh on June 22, 1985.
It’s understood that no new information or evidence was discovered in the course of the search, which was being carried out as part of a review of the case rather than as a result of any new information.
The underwater search came one year after a five-day search was carried out in the surrounds of Mrs Walsh’s home – nothing of major significance to the investigation was found.
The search of the house and farm continued for five days, and a specially-trained cadaver dog was brought in from the UK to help with the search.
The mother-of-seven – one of whom was an infant at the time – was last seen at a party at the house at around 4am on June 22, 1985 and she was reported missing seven days later.
When the investigation was relaunched in November of last year, Gardaí conducted house-to-house enquiries and people who attended the party were re-interviewed.
Barbara Walsh was 5’8” of medium build and brown hair when she disappeared – she would be 65 years old now.
