Work on the new secondary school for Clifden is well under way – and the students can look forward to a state-of-the-art facility at the beginning of the new term in September 2017.
Following a 15 year campaign for a new building, the works began in recent months and the foundation for the new school is already in place. Locals are delighted with the progress.
Contractors JJ Rhatigan are delighted with the progress on the new secondary school and are confident that it will be ready in time for the new school term in September next year.
Local Fine Gael councillor Eileen Mannion is keeping a close watch on developments on the site and believes that it will be open in time for the new school term in 2017. “It will be a fantastic facility for education in the area,” she commented.
She said that the contractors have been on site since June and that works on the project are expected to be completed on target. All going well students could be in the new fit for purpose school in September 2017.
Cllr Mannion said that all of the foundation works are complete, the pre-cast internal and external walls are in place for the lower ground floor and by Christmas it is expected that the walls will be completed for the ground floor.
The Clifden Councillor said that the local community are delighted to see the work progressing on the new school. She said that the foundations were in and pile-driving has been done and she is pleased that the works are on schedule.
