More than 850 new jobs were announced by IDA-supported companies in Galway over the past year, with the city and county well placed to continue attracting investment, according to officials.
Site visits by potential investors in 2016 were on a par with the previous year and IDA executives are optimistic of more companies establishing a presence here.
However, the IDA’s Regional Business Development Manager, Catherina Blewitt, said Galway’s track record in attracting investment must not lead to complacency.
“Site visit figures are on par with last year and we are very pleased with the level of interest demonstrated in Galway as a location for companies to establish operations.
“That said, we never forget that we are competing, not just with other locations within Ireland, but with other European and global locations too. There is no room for complacency and there are challenges ahead.
“But Galway has demonstrated that it can meet the criteria of global companies in terms of the availability of skilled workers, easy access, good infrastructure and services and a strong pro-business culture and we will continue to build on that,” she said.
Ms Blewitt pointed out that in 2016, there were 850 jobs announced for Galway by nine companies supported by the IDA – an increase of 250 jobs on the previous year.
The companies which announced jobs being created Galway city were: Ipswitch (60); Wayfair (160); Zeltiq (60); Siteminder (100); Mathworks (50); Wood Group (10); SMT (60) and Met Life (200 jobs).
