Hundreds of volunteers are continuing to join daily searches of the Galway coastline for missing student Michael Bugler.

The volunteers have been praised for their help – from assisting with searches, to providing transport, hot drinks and food.

The 20-year-old law student – known to his friends as ‘Bugs’ – was last seen around a fortnight ago.

CCTV footage captured him around Claddagh Church shortly before 1am on the night of Thursday, December 18 into Friday morning.

Over the past week, searches have concentrated on the coastline around Galway back as far as Spiddal, with up to 300 volunteers and professionals helping out each day.

His family and friends have made impassioned pleas on social media for help with the searches and thanked those who have helped so far.

His sister Laura said: “I wish I could thank everyone individually for the turn out. You’ve all been absolutely amazing, we’re humbled and astounded at the support.”

In a renewed appeal for help, his friend Colm Turner said: “We can find him, but the fact is we need your help, he was loved by his family and by his friends, so please if you can make it up at any stage, myself and anyone who knows him will be hugely grateful.

“Let’s have, hopefully, one last push and find Bugs for his family, he’s never given up, let’s not give up either,” he said.
