An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for 147 student beds spaces at Fairgreen Road in the city.
CWC Webworks Limited was initially granted planning permission for student accommodation at Fairgreen Road by the city council.
The development will be a 6-storey block in total providing 46 units with 147 bed spaces for student accommodation.
The ground level comprises the extension of Galway Coach Station.
The city council’s decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála amid concerns about the plot ratio.
However the board has ruled that the student accommodation would not injure the residential amenities of property in the area and is acceptable in terms of pedestrian and traffic safety.
There are 17 conditions attached to the development with one condition stipulating that it can’t be used for holiday letting, hotel or hostel accommodation.
