The next series of The Voice UK is on the hunt for Galway singers, choosing the city as one of three locations for its Irish auditions.

Singers from Galway, Donegal and Belfast are being urged to try out for the hit show across the water following the demise of the Irish version last year.

The 2017 Voice UK moved from the BBC to ITV, with new judges Jennifer Hudson and Gavin Rossdale joining series stalwarts will.i.am and Tom Jones.

Another ITV show, Britain’s Got Talent, has come to Galway for the last two years on a talent hunt. Word has obviously leaked out.

“We’re on the look-out for anyone who thinks they have what it takes to be the new vocal superstar,” said a spokeswoman.

In 2015 Galway woman Sharon Murphy blew the judges away with her raw emotional cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’. She reduced Tom Jones to tears and she later chose him over Ricky Wilson to be her mentor.

Will.i.am said her voice was “medicine” and came from a “magical place”. He labelled her a “Doctor of Music”.

Sharon later revealed she never knew who her family were as she had grown up in an orphanage in Clifden. Her mother stayed with her for over a year until giving her up for adoption.

The singer left the show after losing in the knockout stages and before reaching the live finals.

The 2018 auditions will be held at Seven on Bridge Street in the city.

They take place on Sunday, April 23 at 7pm.

It will be first come first served. The Voice UK is open to solos and duos only – so bands need not apply.

“All musical styles are welcome and entrants need to be over 16. Those under 18 must attend the audition with a parent or legal guardian until 9pm,” said the spokeswoman.
