County councillors quiz Eir over broadband rollout plans

Communications giant Eir has come under harsh questioning from county councillors following a presentation on its plan to roll out high speed broadband to Galway’s rural communities.
The company’s Director of Corporate Affairs Paul Bradley addressed Athenry/Oranmore councillors on plans to provide 80% coverage across the country by late next year.
However, councillors raised concerns about the commercial aspect of the roll-out, which in some cases has seen houses in county areas provided with broadband while their next door neighbours go without.
However, Eir says 94% of Galway’s population already has access to Eir or Meteor 4G.
Councillor James Charity says the roll-out seems to be creating a two-tier system in terms of access.
