Galway Gardaí will be out in force this weekend as part of an Easter bank holiday road safety campaign.
Garda resources – including unmarked patrol cars – will be deployed across the city and county over the next three days to improve road safety.
So far this year, 47 people have been killed on Irish roads – and bank holiday weekends are statistically one of the most dangerous times to be on the road.
Gardaí are also warning motorists to be particularly aware of the risk involved in driving the morning after a night out and that they will be out in force on the roads.
They’re urging people celebrating over the weekend to ensure they have a lift home and other road users to slow down, wear a seatbelt and wear a high-vis vest if out walking or cycling.
Regional Traffic Superintendent Noel Kelly says Galway drivers are being warned that gardaí will be out in force.
