A 57-year-old man has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court in Dublin charged with the rape and sexual assault of three girls during the 1970s and 1980s.
Garda Michelle Berry of Oranmore Garda Station gave evidence at Galway District Court last week of serving a Book of Evidence on the accused.
The man, who cannot be named in order to protect the identities of the complainants, is charged with nine sample counts of raping and indecently assaulting one of the girls on dates unknown between June 13, 1977 and June 12, 1979.
He is charged with four sample counts of raping and indecently assaulting a second girl on dates unknown between June 1, 1982 and September 30, 1985.
He is further charged with two sample counts of raping and indecently assaulting a third girl on dates unknown between June 1, 1979 and September 30, 1985.
Judge Mary Fahy sent the accused forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court on continuing bail on condition he surrender his passport and not apply for any travel documents; remain within the State pending completion of the case; sign on very Monday and Friday at his local Garda Station; and have no contact by any means with the complainants or any witnesses, by himself or through another party, to include social media.
Judge Fahy said that due to the nature of the charges, reporting restrictions with regard to the man’s name were to continue for the present.
