A meeting will be held in Claregalway tomorrow evening to discuss concerns regarding the provision of convalescent care in Galway.
Galway TDs have been invited to attend the event which is being led by Nursing Homes Ireland.
It follows representations from NHI members and local families over changes which mean patients do no always receive convalescent care within their community or preferred local setting.
It comes as the HSE has invited tenders for the provision of convalescent care within a 30 kilometre radius east and west of Galway city.
The public meeting takes place in the Claregalway Hotel at 4pm tomorrow (Thurs) and will be attended by nursing home operators from across the county.
Tadhg Daly of NHI says the system will force patients being discharged from UHG to accept care in locations far removed from their families and friends.
