Gardaí are trying to establish the cause of a major gorse fire in the Connemara area which continues to burn this morning.
The fire started in the Tiernee area of Lettermullen around lunchtime yesterday (Wednesday) and continued into the early hours of today.
Five units of the fire brigade attended the scene and brought the blaze under control at around 4 this morning.
However a unit of the fire brigade from Carraroe has now returned to the scene as the fire has flared up again.
A number of homes were under threat from the blaze for a time and electricity infrastructure has been damaged.
A unit of the city fire brigade also attended a vegetation fire on the Headford Road at the Curragh Line at around midnight.
Crews remained at the scene for about an hour-and-a-half.
