There’s something queer going on in the Claregalway hinterland involving garden gnomes and farmyard troughs – and Gardaí are determined to get to the bottom of it.
Three incidents have been reported in the last fortnight in the townlands of Killoughter, not far from Menlo, and Kiniska, outside Claregalway village off the N17 towards Tuam.
In the dead of night, farmyards have been visited by what is thought to be a lone trespasser on foot. But this twilight raider has so far not revealed a criminal intent.
Rather, the person has moved around garden gnomes and changed around the position of cattle and sheep troughs.
No person or property targeted bears the same trademarks – the victims are young and old and not in the same geographical location. Their only similarity is the remoteness of the locations, explained a Galway Garda spokesperson.
“No matter how silly people think the incident might be, we are asking them to report all such incidents to us so we can get a modus operandi and better target our patrols,” she said.
“We’re quite sure it’s an individual rather than a group. We believe he’s not in a car but he’s walking as there were no extra tyre marks at the scene,” she added.
