The N18 between Ardrahan and Kilcolgan remains closed this morning following a collision which claimed the life of a pedestrian overnight.
The two-vehicle crash happened about 2km on the Galway side of Ardrahan shortly after 12.30am last nigh morning.
The driver of one of the cars was arrested at the scene but has since been released.
A 66-year-old male pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a car on the N18.
The car also struck a parked garda car injuring two gardaí who were outside the car at the time.
They were take to University Hospital Galway where their injuries are described as non life-threatening.
The body of the pedestrian was also taken to UHG.
The driver of one of the cars, a man in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and was taken to Gort garda station and was later released.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them at Gort Garda Station on 091 636400.
The N18 between Ardrahan and Kilcolgan is closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Investigation and diversions are in place.
Meanwhile, a separate incident involving an articulated vehicle is causing traffic delays on the road between Kilcolgan and Ballinderreen.
Motorists are advised to used the Craughwell route.
