The young woman who died at Galway docks has been named as a GMIT student from Castlebar in Mayo.
Nicole McCaffrey Niland was a fourth year Medical Science student at GMIT’s Dublin Road campus.
A search and rescue operation got underway after she was seen entering the River Corrib near O’Brien’s Bridge at 2.30am on Sunday.
GMIT President Fergal Barry has extended the college’s sympathies to her family and friends, and a memorial mass will be held at GMIT later this week.
