A meeting will be held on Monday evening in the Clayton Hotel to try and find a solution to the chronic traffic congestion in the Galway area.
After the plan to place Gardaí on duty to ease traffic congestion at Parkmore fell through due to health and safety concerns, Galway City Council have been exploring new solutions.
Organiser of the meeting, Councillor Peter Keane said that it would inform the public of their new plans as well as give people a platform to make their concerns heard.
“The purpose of the meeting is to give the public the information that they don’t currently have about the works goings on behind the scenes.
“We’re just trying to tease out some of the things that are being discussed and proposed and obviously to listen to people’s concerns which is what we’re there for,” Cllr Keane said.
Cllr Keane said that in attendance at the meeting will be traffic management consultants, Fianna Fáil TDs Anne Rabbitte, Eamonn Ó Cuív and Timmy Dooley, as well as various local representatives.
Cllr Keane also revealed that he hopes to have someone from CIÉ Bus Éireann attending the meeting but that he couldn’t confirm that as of yet.
Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Communications, Environment & Natural Resources, Timmy Dooley will provide valuable insight, Cllr Keane said, as he came through a similar situation with a bypass in Ennis.
Cllr Keane said the real key to solving the traffic crisis is the Galway City ringroad but he admits that it’s highly unlikely to be completed by 2024.
