Galway City Tribune – An investigation into serious allegations of wrongdoing against Galway City Council staff is ongoing, according to a Government Minister.

The whistleblower allegations, against named individuals, relate to “irregularities” in relation to the city’s Pay and Display parking meters.

The allegation is the City Council is €1 million out of pocket due to the irregularities, as well as possible “serious issues” with regards to misappropriation of City Council property.

Public Accounts Committee chairman, John McGuinness, has quizzed the Government on the status of the investigation into the claims.

Speaking in the Dáil, the Fianna Fáil Deputy asked that the report by the City Council into the allegations be made available, unredacted, to the person who blew the whistle on the alleged wrongdoing.

Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy said his department is aware of the request by the person who made the protected disclosure submission to receive a full copy of the report prepared by Galway City Council. The request was being considered, he said.
