Fianna Fáil has a chance of a second seat in Galway West, tallies show.
Éamon Ó Cuív is in line to top the poll and his running mate, former city councillor John Connolly will be in a battle for the fifth seat.
The tallies, with 34% of boxes opened, have Ó Cuív on 15% and John Connolly at 7.6%.
The city-based candidate has polled strongly across the city and in Barna and North Connemara, where he teaches.
With one-third of the votes tallied, the following is the first preference is: Connolly, C 10.8%; Connolly, J 7.6%; Cuív 15%; Kyne 10%; Clochartaigh 10.5%; Nolan 6.7%; O Tuathail 6.4%; Naughton 6.8%; Grealish 6%.
