It has been confirmed that one woman in her 30s has died following a crash between a lorry and a car in Clarenbridge early today.
The woman was the driver of the car and the horrific crash happened at 8.30 am on the Galway side Clarenbridge villiage
Gardai say that Heavy Goods Vehicles are still being diverted at Kilcolgan and at Oranmore via Loughrea.
Meanwhile local traffic and other motorists are being diverted at the Post Office in Maree.
The road through Clarenbridge is expected to reopen at approximately 4 this evening and as yet the name of the person who has died is not being released until next of kin have been informed.
Others injured in the crash are being assessed for their injuries at University Hospital, Galway.
