Irish Water says quality issues in Carraroe will be resolved

Irish Water says ongoing works at Carraroe will achieve compliance with the European Communities Drinking Water Regulations.
The Environmental Protection Agency has initiated legal proceedings against the utility for failing to implement its programme of action in relation to the Carraroe Public Water Supply.
A boil water notice was put in place in Carraroe last month following the detection of cryptosporidium.
The EPA says where there is a failure to meet a water quality standard, it can issue a direction to Irish Water.
However, the environmental watchdog says the action programme for Carraroe was not implemented in the agreed timeframe.
A summons has been issued to Irish Water, and the case is listed to be heard at the Dublin Metropolitan Court on May 23rd.
Irish Water says it’s investing around €1million in the upgrade works at Carraroe, and it hopes the works will be completed by September.
