The Connemara area is shocked and saddened by the death of a local mussel farmer in a diving accident over the weekend.
Marty Nee from Lettergesh, Renvyle died while diving in Killary fjord on Saturday evening after he got into difficulty.
48-year old Marty Nee and his wife Catherine opened a rope-grown mussel farm in Killary in 2000.
The father of three was diving for shellfish in the fjord near Leenane around 7 o’ clock on Saturday evening when he got into difficulty.
Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and his body was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.
Marty Nee was well-known in the local area where he supplied mussels for the popular Connemara Mussel Festival each year.
