A new group has been set up in Connemara with the objective of pushing for a major upgrade of the N59 from Oughterard to Clifden – and further onto Leenane.
The N59 Action Campaign is planning a petition and other activities in order to increase the momentum of their efforts for a top class road.
Meanwhile, further activity with regard to the N59 has been signalled by public representatives.
Anger about the hold-up in upgrading the N59 road in Connemara has bulged to the surface in the last few days.
On Wednesday, the “N59 Action Campaign” group was formed with two former councillors – Seosamh Ó Cuaig and Josie Conneely – and representatives from various communities.
They say the campaign will be community based with petitions on a widespread basis and another meeting scheduled next week.
There was another move the following day: Sinn Féin Councillor Thomas Healy announced a public meeting in Maam Cross on the 11th of August to start up what he termed a cross community effort in relation to the N59.
Deputy Éamon Ó Cuív issued a newsletter this week concentrating totally on the N59 and Minister of State, Seán Kyne said in Clifden that no stone can be left unturned in the effort to develop the N59 to a high standard.
