The new administrator of the Galway diocese says he’ll rely on the advice of retired Bishop Martin Drennan as he takes on his new role.
Moycullen parish priest Canon Michael McLoughlin is to take charge of Galway Diocese until a new Bishop of Galway is appointed.
He was selected for the position at a meeting of the Diocesan College of Consulters last evening, and will serve as Diocesan Administrator for the Dioceses of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora with immediate effect.
Canon McLoughlin takes over the administrative duties of retired Bishop Dr. Martin Drennan who retired on Friday on health grounds.
The Mayo native studied for the priesthood at Saint Patrick’s College, Thurles and was ordained to the priesthood in 1982.
