A 25-year-old Galway model is set to participate in an international TV show that aims to create the industry’s new catwalk superstar, with filming beginning this week.

Rosscahill native Katherine Gannon, who has been modelling since she was thirteen, was selected as contestant on the American reality TV show “Fashion Icon.”

The show will differ from other modelling TV shows in that it promotes fairness in the industry and won’t discriminate on issues such as race, height and weight.

“The show is about not having poor standards in the industry which would affect the health of models in any way. So they wouldn’t exclude people if they had a skin condition for example and feel like they couldn’t be in it,” explained Katherine.

She has already participated on the pilot season of the show in 2014 which she came second in her category. Katherine is looking forward to returning to the show which she describes as being “the best thing I ever did.”

“I loved it so much and it made me feel great about myself. I felt relaxed about modelling since I did it because I got so far and I was never expected to get that far. I had great confidence out of it.

“I always try to promote health in the industry on social media and how that competition was the best experience of my life. The producer asked me could she show my profile to the designers for this season and they obviously liked me because I got a call from the producer asking me to come again,” she said.

The show which is filmed in Montreal, Canada also differs from many of the other reality TV shows at the moment given the shows organising aren’t seeking controversy from their contestants.
