Threshold says the number of people approaching its Galway office for help with rent increases has more than doubled over the past eight months.
The housing charity says that 248 tenants have contacted it for advice since January – that’s a significant increase of 128 percent on the 109 tenants who made contact during the same period last year.
It follows a report from property website Daft.ie that shows rents in Galway city are now 10 percent higher than their peak in 2008.
Diarmaid O’ Sullivan of Galway Threshold says that until new housing is delivered, rents will likely continue to rise across Galway.
