Former Tuam town councillor and local businessman Paul O’Grady has passed away.
The 70-year-old died at his home at The Deanery, Dublin Road, Tuam.
A larger than life character who was no stranger to controversy, the well-known auctioneer joined Tuam Town Council in 1999 for the Fine Gael party and remained until the 2009 election where he lost his seat.
He was later co-opted back onto the council after the resignation of Pete Warren in 2011.
Apart from his auctioneering business, Paul O’ Grady was the owner of the Sportsmans Inn in the town, was a Commissioner of Oaths and held a law degree
Among the other titles held by the Galway Road native are former President of the Vintners Federation of Ireland and former President of Tuam Chamber of Commerce.
He was also involved in GAA and soccer in Tuam.
Paul O’ Grady is survived by his wife Kathy, his son Keith, his daughter Karen who is in Australia and his grandchildren.
