Galway TDs to attend high level meeting about N59

Galway West TDs will travel to Dublin on Thursday for a high-level meeting about the N59 through Connemara.
Last week, a convoy of heavy goods vehicles from the Connemara-based N59 action group led a ‘go slow’ through the city to highlight residents’ frustration over the long-awaited project.
An Bord Pleanala refused permission in May for the long-awaited upgrade to the N59 between Maam Cross and Clifden due to environmental concerns.
That decision provoked a fierce backlash – with many claiming that the refusal would set the badly-needed project back 20 years and ultimately put lives at risk.
The stretch of road, which forms part of the only national road in Connemara, has also previously been described as one of the worst routes in Ireland.
