An appeal has been lodged against plans to transform a hotel in Oranmore into a nursing home
John Ferriter of Tasbeem Limited was granted planning permission by the County Council in September for the development at Galway Oyster Hotel in the village.
However, an appeal of that decision has now been made to An Bord Pleanala.
The 92-bed nursing home in would be over four floors above basement, and the development would also include a pharmacy.
County planners approved the project with eight conditions attached
However, in an appeal to An Bord Pleanala, it was argued that the location is not suitable for a nursing home.
Appellant John Bollard from Doughiska argues that the environment around the building is also extremely unsuitable for residential care, with ‘harsh concrete and tarmacadam.’
It’s also argued that the additional 32 car parking spaces would encroach on an attractive mature landscaped area.
An Bord Pleanala is assessing the appeal, and will make a decision next year.
