Concerns have been raised over the provision of flood relief works at South Park in the city.
The matter was debated at a meeting of the city council last night, where councillors discussed their submissions to the OPW as part of the CFRAM project.
Labour councillor Billy Cameron said the grounds of NUIG should be a focus due to rising water levels near Distillery road.
Independent councillor Donal Lyons queried whether South Park is to be included in the CFRAM submission.
Breaches in the rock armour near Leisureland and in other areas along the prom were also reported.
Director of Services Joe O’Neill said South Park is an amenity area and as such will not be treated with the highest priority.
However, he said works at Nimmo’s Pier, as well as defence walls at the Claddagh have been factored in.
The Director added that key works already implemented in the city include the aquadam and the flood gates at Toft Park.
However he said there was an opportunity to carry out minor works as well as a wider project for all flood risk areas in the city.
The report was proposed by councillor Cameron and received unanimous support from all members.
