There’s been a rise of almost 10 percent in the number of homes completed in Galway during the first nine months of this year.
However, the figure for Galway trails significantly behind completion rates in other urban centres including Dublin and Cork.
There were 580 homes completed across Galway between January and September of this year – that’s an increase of 9.4% compared to the same time during 2015.
However, it’s significantly lower than the national average of almost 30%.
Unsurprisingly, Dublin led the way for housing completions during the first 9 months of this year, with over 3,000 homes delivered – an increase of almost 50%.
Cork City also saw a surge in home construction, with 1,319 units completed by the end of September – a rise of over 40% compared to 2015.
There were nine counties where house building dropped compared to last year – Offaly, Waterford, Monaghan, Louth, Mayo, Wicklow, Tipperary, Clare and Carlow.
According to the Irish Independent, the average cost of a new-build home now stands at €260,000 – a sharp rise of 20% compared to the same period last year.
