A temporary flood barrier has been installed in the St Michael’s Square area of Ballinasloe town ahead of heavy rain forecast for the coming days.
Businesses in the area were badly impacted by flooding recently in the aftemath of Storm Desmond.
Storm Frank, the sixth storm to hit Ireland this season, is expected to hit the west coast on Tuesday, bringing damaging gusts and exceptionally high Atlantic waves.
County Council engineers have now set up a flood barrier to prevent further flooding in Ballinasloe town, and pumps are also on standby.
Ballinasloe area councillor Aidan Donohoe says it’s a precautionary measure.
