There are concerns that homes in the Labane area will be flooded in the coming days, as residents struggle to keep out persistent flood waters.
Storm Frank, the sixth storm to hit Ireland this seaason, is expected to batter the west coast from Tuesday, bringing heavy rainfall.
Local county councillor Michael Fahy says any further rainfall will lead to the evacuation of several homes in the Labane area.
He says residents have stacked sandbags outside their properties, but fear the rising water table will cause water to enter their homes despite their efforts.
Councillor Fahy says homes in the area are already surrounded by water.
The N18 remains closed today at Labane due to existing floods, and diversions are in place.
Councillor Fahy says any further flooding is also likely to have an impact on traffic traveling through the county.
