The Gardaí have issued a warning as ‘Revenue’ phone scammers target more homes in County Galway.
The bogus callers, purporting to be from the Revenue service, has cast their net wider, and are now targeting homes across the East and South of the county.
Gort and Loughrea Gardaí have today issued a warning over a telephone scam attempting to obtain bank details and other financial information from households.
The Gardaí have received several complaints about a Dublin number purporting to be from the Revenue office.
However, they believe that the calls are coming from overseas, but the callers are using software which makes it look like the calls are coming from within Ireland.
Householders on a number of county community text alert schemes have been informed of the scam.
Earlier this week, Gardaí received a number of reports of the scammers targetting the Ballinasloe and Mountbellew areas.
Gardaí are warning members of the public to be extra vigilant, and never to give out bank details or other personal financial information over the phone.
