The N59 Action Group in Connemara is to meet the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross, early in the New Year.
This will be the highest level meeting so far about the controversial delay in the development plan for the section of the N59 road from Oughterard to Clifden.
The meeting between Shane Ross and the N59 Action group is being organised by Senator Pádraig Ó Céide who has appraised the Minister of the serious concerns about the road in Connemara.
Shane Ross as Minister for Transport holds ultimate responsibility for road infrastructure in the Republic of Ireland.
This high level meeting has been welcomed by Josie Conneely and Seosamh Ó Cuaig, who have led the N. 59 Action Group since it was set up earlier this year.
They say that what they refer to as the “N59 crisis” needs to be dealt with at the highest level and that Minister Ross will be made aware of the problems facing Connemara people because of the state of this road.
The upgrade from Oughterard to Maam Cross is held up because of environmental issues and the section from Clifden to Maam Cross was refused permission, also due to environmental issues.
