Golfing legend Christy O’Connor Junior has died suddenly on holiday.
Christy died while on holiday in Tenerife with his wife Ann. It’s understood he traveled to the island on New Year’s Eve.
The Galway city native was 67.
As well as his high achievements in professional golf he was also active in golf course design and was very proud of his involvement in designing the Galway Bay course in Oranmore.
In 1998, Christy and Ann lost their 17 year old son Darren in a car crash.
Christy’s death comes as a shock to his family, including his 91 year old uncle and fellow leading golfer Christy O’Connor Senior.
One of the greatest and most would say defining moments of Christy’s golfing career was the Ryder Cup in 1989.
